DeKalb Medical Center Elects New Medical Staff Officers - 2/8/2001

The DeKalb Medical Center medical staff recently elected new officers for the 2000-2002 term. Outgoing chief of staff Sanford Hartman, M.D., is succeeded by radiologist Jay Coffsky, M.D. Surgeon William R. Hardcastle, M.D., is the new vice chief of staff, and obstetrician/gynecologist Albert Scott Jr., M.D. is the secretary.

A member of DMC’s medical staff since 1968, Coffsky held the position of vice chief during the 1998-2000 term. A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Coffsky completed his residency at Eugene Talmadge Memorial Medical Center in Augusta. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.

The new vice chief, Hardcastle, also is medical director of DMC’s trauma services and held the office of secretary during the previous term. A member of the medical staff since 1971, Hardcastle is a graduate of the Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at the Ochsner Clinic and Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Scott, the new medical staff secretary, joined the medical staff in 1991. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Scott completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and most recently served as chief of DeKalb Medical Center’s OB/GYN department. He also is a member of the DeKalb County Hospital Authority.
